Cicero Named one of the Safest Cities in America for 2011 on House Hunt's Top 20 Listing

The Town of Cicero has been named one of the safest cities in America by House Hunt Inc., one of the nation’s largest online real estate agencies.

Cicero is listed as the 19th safest city in the agency’s top 20 annual listing which identifies communities that are among the safest in the country. House Hunt Inc., which has realtors in cities across the country, was founded in 1995.

Since the election of Town President Larry Dominick in 2005, the Town of Cicero has made the safety of families and residents in the Town of Cicero its number one priority.

“We are very proud of this designation that confirms what we have always known, that the Town of Cicero is a safe community because our police and our government and our residents work together to confront street gangs and all forms of crime,” Dominick said.

“Every community has crime. That is a fact. And there are perceptions about communities that are incorrect. The perceptions about the Town of Cicero have been inaccurate and distorted by the mainstream media which singles us out for criticism while ignoring worse problems in other communities. The Town of Cicero is the only city in Illinois that made this list.”

Dominick noted that the listing is not decided by individuals but by a national crime index.

“Cicero has consistently been below the national crime index since 2005,” Dominick said. “But, that will not make us complacent. We will continue to fight crime and street gangs not just by arresting offenders, but by offering many educational and training programs to our community, by offering our youth activities and choices other than street gangs, and by working with all of the community organizations to create a safety network.”
